Attorney Alex James Washington Jr. was born in 1970, in Flint, Michigan. He lived in Natchitoches Louisiana and graduated from Natchitoches Central High School in 1989. Alex obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree at Northwestern State University in 1994 and his Juris Doctor in 1999 from Southern University Law School. He was a member of the “Moot Court” Board. He represented Southern Law School in a National Moot Court competition. He was the winner of “Best Brief” writer in Law school. Alex served as a clerk for the Attorney General’s office for two years while in Law school.
Attorney Washington is the managing Partner for The Washington Law Firm, the former Partner in the Washington and Wells Law Firm. He serves as the City of Attorney for the City of Natchitoches and the Town Attorney for the Village of Natchez, special counsel for the City of Shreveport and Attorney for Grambling University Foundation. He is a former Assistant District Attorney for Caddo and former Assistant Parish Attorney for the Caddo Parish Commission. Prior to serving as Assistant Parish Attorney, he was a criminal defense lawyer in Lake Charles, Louisiana, for the Indigent Defender’s Office. He has served in the capacity of Municipal Bond Counsel for the City of Shreveport, Shreveport-Bossier Port Commission, City of Mansfield, City of Natchitoches, and St. Gabriel. Additionally, he currently serve as hearing officer for the Town of Marksville and formerly served as Ad Hoc Judge Pro Tempore in Shreveport City Court.
Alex is admitted to practice in all Louisiana State Courts, all Texas State Courts, the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, and United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. He has been active in the community and has served as First African American President of the Federal Bar Association in North Louisiana, President of the Black Lawyers Association of Shreveport/Bossier and is a graduate of the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program. Alex is a member of the Louisiana State and Shreveport Bar Association, former member of the Federal Bar Association, Black Lawyers Association of Shreveport/Bossier, Board member on the Northwestern State University of Louisiana Foundation and a former associate member of Harry V. Booth American Inns of Court.
